New Year, New Kitchen

Kitchen renovations come in all shapes and sizes, so today we thought it would be fun to discuss adding storage to your existing kitchen space. We know not everyone wants to gut their entire kitchen and start over, so instead of starting from scratch, why not just enhance the space you’ve already got? We sat down with Bethany Nebel, Kitchen & Bath Designer, to learn more about adding storage to your kitchen!

First things first, start by making a list of what types of additional storage you need – tall pantry cabinets with lots of shelves to store food, tall cabinets for brooms and other cleaning supplies, extra space for small appliances such as crockpots, mixers, Instant Pot, etc.

It’s important to take inventory of what you’re looking to store and the space that you have to store it in. This will help our consultants best help you up your storage game!

Once you’ve made your list and checked it twice, it’s time to consider the condition your current kitchen is in. Do you want to start from scratch or just enhance the space you’ve already got?

If your existing kitchen cabinets are still in good shape and a style you love, let’s talk about ways we can add storage space. We’ll save the full kitchen renovation post for another day.

Maybe you have some open wall space near your kitchen to add some tall pantry cabinets or base cabinets with a countertop to create a coffee bar. Maybe you have an area where you currently have bookcases or another type of furniture piece, but you’d like to turn it into a permanent storage space that coordinates with your kitchen cabinetry.

If space allows, adding an island to your existing kitchen can create the extra storage space you may be looking for as well as an additional countertop workstation.

Adding an island also gives you the opportunity to introduce a new finish or material to your kitchen. Instead of trying to match your existing perimeter cabinet finish, try a contrasting finish (paint or stain) to make the island stand out and become a focal point.

Floating shelves can provide a fun touch of open storage space if you have coordinating canisters, cookbooks, and decorative items you’d like to display.

If you're interested in learning more about how you can add more storage to your existing kitchen space, call or text the showroom at 319-338-8275 to schedule your appointment today.

**We highly recommend getting in contact with a local contractor to get started. They will be responsible for installing your new cabinetry and making your storage dreams come to life!
